Trinity Prep boys team, Bridget Blake of Dr. Phillips, tops heading to FHSAA state cross country meet

Trinity Prep’s boys cross country team and Dr. Phillips’ Bridget Blake enter Saturday’s FHSAA state cross country meet at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City, as the Central Florida favorites to bring home championships.

But neither is a foregone conclusion.

Trinity Prep’s run towards state hit a bump in the road last week when it lost by one point to Melbourne Holy Trinity in the region meet. Throwing the Saints outcome into further doubt is the health of Ryan Gousse, generally considered their No. 3 runner, just a tick or two behind Griffin Jaworski and Whitner Chase. Gouse suffered a strained groin during the region meet and has been rehabbing the injury this week, but he said he should be ready to run at state.
