Mustangs finished 2nd in ’09; they hope to do one better Saturday at state meet

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- When Lakewood Ranch’s girls cross country team arrives at Saturday morning’s Class 3A state cross country meet, the Mustangs will be happy to be there.

Just not as happy as they were last year. Or more to the point, not as content.

In the eyes of the Mustangs, the past eight months have boiled down to this -- standing at the starting line at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City, attempting to become the second team in school history -- along with the 2003 Mustangs baseball team -- to bring home a state championship.
