DADE CITY — Holy Trinity’s Julie Wollrath wasn’t sure exactly where she was in comparison to the rest of the field as she crossed the finish line. Cocoa Beach’s Shelby Davidson knew precisely where she was when she touched it, having spent the past 18 minutes or so in patient calculation.

What mattered was that each runner was first in the Florida High School Athletic Association Cross Country Finals Saturday morning at the Little Everglades Ranch, Wollrath nearly uncontested in the girls’ Class 1A race and Davidson in 2A, after a duel with seventh-grader Daesha Rogers of American Heritage.
