A season to remember for Estero's state champs

The Estero girls cross country team celebrates its second straight state title, this one after winning the Class 3A race on Nov. 19, 2011 at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City. “Are you kidding me?”

That was Kacy Smith’s bewildered reaction as she and a few of her teammates on the Estero girls cross country team chatted with a woman at the first meet of the season in Tampa.

It seems the woman – whom the girls didn’t know – had never heard of Estero High School.

This lady — who apparently spent 2010 living on another planet — didn’t know that the Estero girls ruled the Class 2A universe last year.
