Bolles Boys Score 21 Points For 2A Championship

The Bolles School boys demonstrated their dominance in Florida on Saturday with 21 points and a 1-2-3 finish in the Class 2A final at the Florida state championships at Apalachee Regional Park.

Seniors Charles Hicks (15:29.3), Chase Rivera (15:42) and Benjamin Foltz (15:43.7) swept the top three spots. 

On the girls side, The Bolles School scored 66 points to beat Pine Crest (84). Tsion Yared of Pine Crest won her second straight title in 17:26.7.

The Sarasota High programs had a big day in the Class 4A championship races. The boys won their first state championship with 84 points as senior Ben Hartvigsen ran 15:27.1 for the individual win. H.B. Plant won the girls title with 118 points and Sarasota was second with 136.

Alyssa Hendrix of Riverview won the 4A title in 17:40.5.

In the top individual performance of the day, Valarie Lastra of Mater Academy ran 17:17.6 for the fastest time of the day for the girls in Class 3A and a new state course record. She was 29 seconds up on Ani Veltcheva, a freshman from Gainesville. Lastra stated that she does not intend to run in the postseason. 

Lawton Chiles put three in the top nine and scored 45 points to win the 3A girls team title. 

Belen Jesuit Prep got a stellar 1-2 finish up front from sophomore Javier Vento (15:40) and freshman Adam Magoulas (15:42). The Wolverines also went 10-11-17 to claim the boys championship with 35 points. 

Eighth grader Carly McNatt of Holy Trinity Episcopal ran 17:35.4 on the way to claiming the Class 1A girls title by 53 seconds. Circle Christian scored 70 points and won the girls championship. 

Senior Gabriel Curtis led Mt. Dora Christian to the 1A boys team title (84) with his individual win in 15:52.8.
