State Cross Country: West Florida's Alec Clark sets school record

The Pensacola area had a strong showing at the Florida High School Athletic Association Cross Country Finals on Saturday in Tallahassee, with many surprising finishes.

One of those surprises came from Alec Clark and the West Florida High boys team.

Clark, a senior, set a personal record, broke the school record and finished seventh overall in Class 2A, running the 3.1-mile course at Apalachee Regional Park in 16 minutes, 15.68 seconds.

“He’s a senior, and to come out in your last race on a hilly course like this and PR (set a personal record), that’s an outstanding job,” West Florida coach Jeff Oliver said.
