When the cross country team won the school’s first-ever state title in any sport in 1995, Miami Belen Jesuit head coach Frankie Ruiz knew it was the start of something good.

On Saturday, No. 1 state-ranked Belen continued the winning tradition by dominating the boys field to win the Class 3A team title at the FHSAA State Cross Country Championships at hilly Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

It was Belen’s seventh state title and third in a row.

Belen has won the state title six of the last seven years and finished runner-up in the other year. Ruiz, a former Belen runner, has coached six of those state championship teams in his 12 years as a coach.
